Sheep are a herding animal prevalent across the world. They are identifiable by their possessing a wool coat, which is often used in clothing. Males are identified by having horns. They should not be mistaken for goats.

In 1996, Dolly was created by cloning a sheep.

Several sheep alongside goats were found in Afghanistan during the Soviet Invasion in 1984. According to Ocelot, the sheep alongside goats had originally been domesticated, but after the locals were driven out by the Soviet occupation, they resumed being wild as a result.

Behind the scenes

Prior to the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, developers had shown sheep and other animals roaming around Mother Base. However, in the final version, all the animals on Mother Base are confined to the Animal Conservation Platform. Rescuing animals makes Diamond Dogs receive GMP from environmental NGOs.

Karakul sheep can be found and extracted in Afghanistan in The Phantom Pain.

Concept art for the game revealed that, besides the sheep themselves, the player can also use a sheep's head to blend in with the sheep in Afghanistan.
